Writer Nick Schönfeld and I received the Pulitzer Center’s Deep Dives: Ocean & Fisheries Reporting Grant for our work on Tristan da Cunha’s Marine Protection Zone. The story explores how the island’s community sustains a commercial lobster fishery while protecting one of the world’s largest marine protected areas.

As part of this project, I visited all four islands in the Tristan da Cunha archipelago, spent time fishing on the island’s open power boats, and documented daily life shaped by the surrounding ocean.
